Deep Scratches vs. Light Scratches

Before we get into how to remove scratches from your car, it’s essential to understand the difference between deep and light scratches. Light scratches are usually only surface level, meaning they don’t go through the paint job. These can often be buffed out or polished away relatively quickly.

Deep scratches, on the other hand, are more serious. They penetrate the paint job and can even reach the metal underneath. Deep scratches often require more intensive methods to fix them, but fortunately, there are still some things you can do at home.

Fixing Deep Car Scratches

You can remove deep scratches from your car in a few different ways.

1. Use Sandpaper

One of the most common ways to remove deep scratches is to use sandpaper. You’ll want to start with coarse-grit sandpaper and then move up to a finer one until the scratch is no longer visible.

However, it would help if you were careful when using sandpaper. If you use too much pressure, you could damage the paint even more.

2. Use a Car Scratch Remover

There are several different car scratch removers on the market that can help remove scratches. These usually come in the form of a gel or cream that you apply to the affected area and then buff away.

You may need to try a few different products before finding one that works well on your car’s paint.

3. Use a Car Wax

Car wax can also help remove superficial scratches. Apply the wax to the scratch and then buff it away. The wax will fill in the scratch and make it less visible.

It’s important to note that this method will only work on very light scratches. Deep scratches will still need to be sanded or filled in with a car scratch remover.

4. Use a Rubbing Compound

If car wax doesn’t remove the car scratch, you may need to use a rubbing compound. It is a more aggressive way to remove scratches and should only be used if the other methods don’t work.

To use a rubbing compound, apply it to the affected area and then buff away. You may need to use a power buffer for this method.

If your car has deep scratches, it’s not as bad as you think. You can fix them yourself and save money in the process. All you need is a little time, some basic supplies, and our guide to help you get started.
